Water Soluble Graphite

This portrait is the reason I fell in love with drawing ears, funnily enough. I began drawing one of the characters from the books I was currently reading. He was a blond boy with a smoking habit, hence the trails of light grey predominantly around his face. His addictions consumed him and this intrigued me, what if they literally consumed him into their own physical nature.

Studies in Conte and Charcoal

I love playing with texture. Using conte and charcoal on watercolour paper, both, forces me to have patience in blending pigment into the grain, and reminds me that texture builds character in the plainest of still life perspective.
